Oahu is called “The Gathering Place” with good reason, as it is the epicenter of all the Aloha State’s activities. In fact, 3/4ths of the state’s population is in Honolulu, which calls this island home. Millions of visitors flock to the shores of this island each year, to visit places like Waikiki Beach, Pearl Harbor, the Iolani Palace and Diamond Head. Of course, these are only a few of the attractions on this island.

Honolulu is a combination of Western, Asian, and Polynesian cultures evidenced through the various restaurants and entertainment available. At night, you can find nightclubs, dinner shows and theaters that will surely entertain you. Waikiki and the Ala Moana Center have many famous couture shops, such as Gucci, Chanel, and Dior, as well as many specialty shops in addition to the traditional department stores. You’ll be leaving Hawaii with bags heavier than when you came.

Oahu has some unique events on its shores. Expert surfers glide across monster waves during competition on the North Shore, and every year the Aloha Festivals attract many to celebrate with street parties and a beautiful floral parade. The hula competitions gather many graceful and experienced hula dancers, Hawaiian chanters and musicians for awe-inspiring performances.

Thanks to Don Ho and the Brady Bunch, Honolulu may not seem like the once perfect paradise the wealthy steamship cruisers of the ‘20s and ‘30s found. Waikiki is now lined with malls and cement hotels, but you couldn’t find a more ideal place to put them – along one of the world’s truly great stretches of sands, with the mystical Diamond Head Crater looming beyond.

The weather is nearly always warm, but not too hot, and the whole city is cooled by gentle trade winds. With its multi-ethnic populace, Honolulu is the perfect marriage of American convenience and alluring exotic flavor.

Start planning your Hawaii vacation today and experience the beauty and wonders of Oahu!
